Living Our Mission in Practice

A Soulful Sanctuary for Meaningful Connection and Intentional Experience

Rooted in the living breath of Shambala Embodied, our deeper mission is to cultivate wholeness and harmony as a quiet revolution — being the revolution through the way we live, gather, and give back to land and life.

At a time when the world burns with war, collapse, and disconnection — from Gaza to the forests of this land — we do not turn away. We lean in, hearts open, hands in the soil.

Shambala Nature Retreat is not just a place of retreat; it is a place of remembrance. We are called to preserve, protect, and participate — to be a living example of how humanity can meet nature with reverence and reciprocity.

We steward 118 acres, with over 70% native forest, not as backdrop but as sacred presence. We integrate regenerative systems into the function and feeling of Shambala — compost toilets, rainwater capture, passive design — not only to sustain, but to inspire quiet transformation in all who visit this eco retreat in Western Australia.

Our focus is not production, but presence.
Not farming the land, but forming intimacy with the land.

We believe: we cannot protect what we have not loved.
And love grows through lived experience.

Our Story

A Legacy of Living Wholeness

Shambala has been founded upon the living principles of Ayurveda, permaculture, and other nature-based, holistic ways of relating to life.

For Anna-Lena, that passion has long been rooted in walking the paths of yoga, yoga therapy, tantra, Ayurveda, and ecocentric healing traditions — weaving together Eastern and Western modalities for soul-level transformation.

For Andrew -Ands- Diarmada, the love of music, land, and living systems found practical expression in completing a Permaculture Design Certificate with Fair Harvest Permaculture, which became a catalyst for applying permaculture’s 12 principles not only to the land but to life itself.

Together, our personal paths — one through the inner ecology of the self, the other through regenerative systems and earth stewardship — came together in the vision of Shambala: a place where inner and outer healing meet.

From humble beginnings on a rented farm in Yallingup, hosting ceremonies, workshops, and community events, we dreamt of rooting our work in land. When the world shifted in 2020, we listened.

In 2021, we became custodians of 118 acres of forest and field in Osmington — a sacred meeting of fate and forest. The land, with its golden light, spiraling bark, and quiet whispers, welcomed us.

This land has been lovingly lived with for over 40 years and remained free from chemicals and extractive farming. We honour its legacy — and recognise that in truth, land cannot be owned. We are here not as owners but as guardians, protecting what remains of the precious native forest of the Southwest — a true nature sanctuary in the Margaret River region.

We can only protect what we love. And love grows from intimacy.
Through ceremony, through connection, through living in relationship with place.

What Is Shambala, Really?

The name Shambala emerges from myth, lineage, and personal revelation. Inspired by James Redfield’s Celestine series and rooted in Eastern mystical teachings, Shambala is said to be a hidden realm of peace, harmony, and awakening — never found on a map, because it is cultivated within.

As practitioners of yoga, tantra, Ayurveda, and permaculture, we see Shambala as a state of embodied unity — wholeness lived. As we walk our inner paths — from shadow to light, from separation to connection — we create a collective field of harmony.

This is what Shambala invites: a lived culture of wholeness — a soulful retreat centre in WA that nurtures transformation at every level.
